Sale of Delinquent Lands
For Taxes in Cass County, Indiana, The following list contains the Delinquent Lands, Town Lots and as returned by the Treasurer of Collector of Cass County, Indiana on the 3rd Monday in February, 1842, for the non payment of taxes for the year of 1841, which tracts are severally charged with tax, interest and penalty for 1841 and also for the tax for 1842:.
Name: John Brower, Acres: 160, Description: S. E. Quarter, Section: 10 or 16 (hard to read), Town: 27 Range: 2E, Diq. Taxes int. & pc for 1841: $7.25, Taxes for 1842: $5.92, Total Taxes: $13.17: Township 27, Range 2 East.
NOTES: From History of Cass County, Indiana: From the Earliest Time to the Present; Clay Township is located in Township 27 North, Range 2 East. Hugh Woods, who is also the grandfather to Sarah Jane Woods, wife of Jeremiah Brower is found living in Twp 27, but in the 1-E Range and moved from there after 1837 to Twp. 26. I also have found in 1853 a property tax record for my Jeremiah Brower living in Clinton Twp, land not listed, but property such as livestock, etc. listed as being taxed. Assuming he was renting the property he lived on? Same township as his wife Sarah's family lived in.
New information found 12/25/2019 -- There is a mortgage property for this land by a Jacob Brower from Miami County, Indiana. The mortgage is between B.B. Doty and Jacob Brower, the date of the mortgage is 1839 and recorded 1840, said land is 160 acres, Section 10, Township 27. The problem I continue to run into is that these Brower's are or may be the same Brower's from Preble Ohio who migrated to Miami, IN and apparently do not descend from Adam Brouwer. We know that my 4th Grandfather Jeremiah lived in Cass County, Indiana as far back as 1844 when he shows up in the newspaper for a telegram notice in Logansport. This may also mean that the John Brower I found in the census records may not be the father of my 4th grandfather, but rather this same person who either is named John Jacob Brower or Jacob John Brower of Miami, Indiana, or this Jacob Brower is not at all related to the same Brower's from Preble Ohio that lived in Miami, Indiana. I cannot find a John or Jacob Brower, born about 1770-1780 with a son born about 1810-1815 and a daughter born about 1815-1820 (assuming both listed on 1840 census records are his children).
